Anushka Sharma is making minimalistic outfits a fashion mainstay

Unlike contrary beliefs, for someone who works in fashion, I am a mess when it comes to deciding on the contents of my own wardrobe. My morning routine almost always ends in defeat (don’t be surprised to find me lying prostrate at the altar of my blouses - which were yanked out of their perfect hangar-setting only to end up crumpled on the floor). The fact that I am ODing on vitamin ‘trends’ doesn’t help much, either. Social media, which currently cram-full with pictures of ridiculously good-looking women dominating the Parisian and Milanese pavements, is only making it worse. I have essentially come to a style crossroads whereby the simplicity of uniform dressing seems more appealing at the age of 27 as compared to what it did back in high school.

So, when normcore became a mainstay in the fashion lexicon - and I’m talking about 2017 here, bear with me - I felt like I had found my sartorial standpoint. After combing through a bevy of trends - some rather unimaginable and others even more unwearable off the runway (yes, I’m talking to you Kylie’s ultra cropped sweatshirt. And although you weren’t half as bad, you, too, legging shoes) - I had finally found a trend I didn’t have to rejig with a slant of my individualism (excuse the vanity). Normcore was a literal manifestation of my Pinterest mood board, which was more or less inspired by Marc Jacobs’clean cuts and mannish tailoring.

Cut to 2018 and I am still subverting most runway styles for comfort (although, I can’t wait to get my hands on Tom Ford’s hoax croc-skin merchandise). Except this time, I am not the only crusader for minimalistic chic clothing - Anushka Sharma, too, is waxing poetic with me.
