Pallavi Goenka Winter/Festive 2011 collection showcase at the LFW
Dwelling deep into the rich traditional heritage of the globe, Pallavi dreamt up modern cuts and drapes along with innovative surface textures for her label Ktha. Dedicating her latest line called “Meler” to the woman who longs for India’s crafts and textiles and the oneness of humanity; Pallavi used a vibrant colour story with red, sunny orange and indigo and mixed them cleverly with touches of ochre, beige and clay red.
Opening the show was the popular singer Raageshwari in printed harem pants and sexy top serenading the audience with the hit song “Time of my Life” from the Hollywood musical Dirty Dancing. Emphasizing the Oneness of the world theme was the mix of prints, colours, detailing and constructions from Pallavi’s creative board.
Layers for shifts, drapes and cowls for dresses, panels for jackets and lots of asymmetry marked the collection. The prints were a mélange of Indian textiles and motifs, while the silhouettes were a blend of the ethnic and the occident; with splashes of some arresting trails and drapes in varied textures.
The embellishments ranged from antique gold dori work, coins, pin tucks, Japanese floral and geometries with the use of the once extinct Japanese pattern technique.
The collection was dramatic on all fronts and even the finale with Pallavi Goenka taking her bow with Raageshwari who once again had the audience applauding as she sang the Michael Jackson hit “We are the World” further reinforced the theme story of oneness.
Unconventional, unusual and ultra eye catching is how “Meler” by Pallavi Goenka can be described.
