What? Water causes hair to turn dry and brittle? Here are some ways to battle it

While there is no actual ways to change the water you bathe with, there are certain measures you can take up to ensure your hair quality is better. Hard water is a form of water that has excess of calcium, chlorine, magnesium and other minerals and sulphates that degrade the hair quality, that is found in  most ground water. So if you are washing your hair with ground water, it is likely that the cause of hair damage, is the hard water which comes from the ground.

Here are some ways in which you can protect your hair from this damage:

Shower filter

An extremely cheap way to protect your hair form hard water, the filter traps all the unnecessary minerals in it. It is just an added attachment that you can put on your shower head and remove easily according to your convenience.

Argan Oil

This oil is extremely rich in fatty acids and applying it on your hair protects the stands by forming a barrier against the hard water and retains moisture in the hair. “It also improves circulation to the roots and makes follicles stronger. Massage the oil thoroughly all over your hair, then wrap your head in a warm, damp towel for the oil to soak in the scalp and wash your hair off with anti-hard water shampoo,” advises, Manish Chowdhary, co-founder of Fit & Glow.

Lemon

The acidic qualities of lemon juice help remove unnecessary build up from your hair. All you need to do is add 3 spoons of lemon juice to 3 cups of water and mix it well. Pour this on your hair after shampooing and let it sit for a couple of minutes before washing off. Your hair will feel substantially lighter and bouncier.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Post shampooing your hair to get rid of all the dirt and grime, to add bounce and shine to your hair, rinse it with Apple Cider Vinegar. “Leave this on for a couple of minutes and then rinse off with water. This product helps in getting rid of product build up and dandruff from the hair,” says Manish Chowdhary, the hair expert.

Bottled water

A slightly more expensive alternative, is to wash your hair with bottled water. Since it is clarified and safe to consume, it is perfect and light for the hair as well!
