The ULTIMATE guide to spring clean your hair routine for it to look healthier and glossier

Spring is coming up and there is no better way to get into the weather, than to clean and live in the moment. Cleaning has numerous benefits. Apart from keeping the surroundings clean, it also works as a de-stresser and helps in calming the nerves. But ever thought of doing a spring cleaning for your hair routine? We doubt! What many people are unaware of, is that one of the ways to keep your hair soft and healthy is by thoroughly cleaning your entire hair regime. This will ensure your locks are glossier and there is less breakage.

For the glossiest locks and healthiest hair ever, start with,

Clean up your hairbrushes

How many hairbrushes do you own that have a thin layer of hair stuck to the base? When was the last time you cleaned them?

The hair product build up in the brushes is a hub for bacteria and other dirt. This means that despite washing your hair, when you use the hairbrush, you are literally brushing the grease and dirt back into your locks.

Time to soak those brushes in some deep cleansing shampoo and then scrubbing them for a while, we think.

Change your pillowcase

It is important to change your pillowcases regularly (preferably every 5 days). All the grease and bacteria that is stuck on the pillowcase gets transferred on your hair and makes it dirty, no matter how clean it is before you sleep. Sleeping on greasy pillowcases can make your hair dull and irritable.

Clean your filters and plates

On regular intervals, ensure you clean up the air filters that are usually located at the back of your hair dryers. These can be twisted off and washed out. Blocked filters can reduce the lifespan of your dryer and can also lead to overheating which can seriously damage the hair.

If you use a hair straighter or curler regularly, ensure you use soap water to wipe the plates clean every 15 days.

Chop those locks

This is the best time to chop off that overgrown winter hair that is now supremely dry, damaged and full of split ends. Try your hand at experimentation and try out a funky new cut that is sure to turn your locks over and make them feel light and healthy again.

Mask and shower cap

Once a week, apply a deep conditioning hair mask from roots to tips and head into the shower. Once you are in and the room is all steamed up, pop on a shower cap. The steam and heat gets trapped into the cap and makes the treatment much more intense and long-lasting. Try to leave the shower cap on for as long as possible before washing it off.

Watch what you eat

The healthier you eat, the healthier your hair is bound to feel and look. Every single nutrient is important for the body and even if a single one is missing, it can do serious damages to your hair. If you think your body is missing out on supplements, you can add them into your diet by consuming them orally. But before you do this, always consult a doctor and dietitian.
