The Dermatologist says never to miss sunscreen.
The Virus says I have to use my hand wash then my face wash and double cleanse.
Instagram says I need Vitamin C Serum.
The dry weather makes my hand reach for the cream bottle.
The Kansa wand before I hit the bed couldn’t feel more relaxing.

But let’s face it. We may not have that much time for self-care as we did during the lockdown. How to prioritise and keep our skincare routine simple.

Derive your Dosha – According to Ayurveda, your Dosha makes you who you are. Hence it is essential to know your skin dosha as skincare requirements vary from person to person.

Vata: Dry & Mature skin
Products to use are typically formulated to provide moisture, strength, warmth and nourishment to dry & mature skin.

Pitta: Normal, sensitive, or combination skin
Products to use typically contain ingredients with deeply soothing properties to calm down sensitivity, irritation and redness is present.

Kapha: Oily skin
Products to use should have an astringent, warming and detoxifying effect on the skin.

Most people are a combination of Doshas depending on their mindset and physicality.

Facial cleanser - If your face is not clean of dirt, excess oil and impurities, no matter which product you apply, it will mix with the dirt that has built up and cause clogged pores. The first step to healthy skin is using a gentle face cleanser that is also pH balanced.

Serum - Serums are great to use on cleansed skin to target specific concerns such as dryness or pigmentation or blemishes, wrinkles etc. They are packed with rich actives and nutrients and penetrate deeper into the skin layers for further repair. Shankara’s Daily Repair Serum gives your skin the hydration it craves. Soothing, satisfying rose and grapefruit seed extract along with algae extracts and amino acids calm while replenishing vital moisture for hydrated, healthy skin.

Moisturiser - Irrespective of your skin type, applying a moisturiser is a must to keep the skin hydrated and protected from the sun, pollution etc. Due to constant washing, the pH of the skin can get altered leading to dryness of the facial skin. To prevent this, try and moisturise as often as you wash.

While an elaborate skin routine is a great way to pamper and care for the skin, the key is to stay consistent and take care of the basics i.e., cleansing, repairing with a serum and protecting with a moisturiser. The “less is more” is sometimes the best approach when it comes to a skincare routine. An overcomplicated regimen can be more damaging to the skin barrier and the natural acidic pH.
