Hair Care Tips: Types of Dandruff and tips to keep them at bay

We all do multiple things to maintain the shine and volume of our hair. Right from applying the right shampoo to choosing the right conditioner, we make sure that we do everything we can to achieve lustrous locks. But sometimes flaky dandruff comes in our way and damage the quality of the hair. Dandruff can be caused for multiple reasons, and those white flaky things do no good to anyone. It not only makes you conscious when you wear a black colour but it also embarrasses you when you have the constant urge to scratch your head in a social gathering.

Improper diet, poor hygiene, dryness and too much sweat can contribute to dandruff. Dietary nourishment, as well as topical moisturisation, can help keep the condition at bay. Some natural remedies can help to keep dandruff at bay, but understanding the types of dandruff can also help to zero down on the effective cure.

Read below to know more about different types of dandruff and tips to treat them.

Dry scalp:

When you don't nourish your scalp enough, it tends to get dry and flaky. It is one of the reasons why some people experience dandruff only in winter when the skin is stripped off all the moisture. And since we have a bath with hot water, that worsens the condition. And the key to treat dandruff in winters is to have a healthy diet, use anti-dandruff shampoo and drink an adequate amount of water.

Oily scalp:

When the scalp produces too much oil and is not cleaned often, it combines with dead skin cells to produce dandruff. It can be treated by finding a shampoo that suits your scalp and use it at least thrice a week initially. Apart from that, if oil production is too much, you can also consider treating abnormal production oil. The oily scalp shouldn't be avoided since it attracts a fungus called Malassezia. Such a condition aggravates dandruff.

Allergies:

Some allergies and disorders affect our body in multiple ways. Especially skin diseases like eczema or psoriasis can trigger dandruff. Allergic reaction to food or medicines can also cause your scalp to itch and flake. So, it's imperative to get it treated soon.

Things to keep in mind while treating dandruff:

1. Whether you have dandruff or not, washing hair with hot water is a strict no.

2. When you purchase a shampoo, always make sure to read the label and opt for chemical-free and organic products.

1. Don't forget to clean your accessories like clips and combs regularly. Never share your comb and carry it with you always.

2. The easiest way to treat dandruff at home is to include natural items in your hair-care regimes such as vinegar, lemon juice, neem and baking soda.
