The Zimbabwe Cricket Board (ZC) was suspended with immediate effect by the Sports and Recreation Commission on Friday. The SRC is a state-owned enterprise that reports to the sports ministry of Zimbabwe.

ZC's acting managing director Givemore Makoni was also banned from his position.

The Zimbabwe Board had been put in conflict with SRC after the election of Tavengwa Mukuhlani as the chairman. The SRC issued a directive to the ZC last week to suspend the board's electoral process, but the board went ahead and conducted a meeting that led to the election of Mukuhlani for a four-year term. This led to a direct conflict between the two organisations.

The SRC claim that they were forced to act after several complaints of violations of the constitution.

"It cannot be in national interest that a national sporting association continues to conduct itself in a manner that it suggests that it and its officials are a law unto themselves. Certain of its office bearers, past and present, have been the subject matter of allegations involving fraud exchange control violations and other acts of corruption and criminality related to the monies and assets of Zimbabwe Cricket and the International Cricket Council," the SRC release said.

The SRC had earlier issued a directive that ZC's elective annual meeting be suspended, after complaints that corruption is rampant in the board.

ZC, being a full member of the ICC is subject to rules of the world body, but SRC clarified that ZC is liable to laws of the land as well.
