Yuvraj Singh heaped praise on this Indian cricketer after his brilliant performance in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. He also backed him to win the Man of the Tournament award
Yuvraj Singh has backed Rohit Sharma to win the Man of the Tournament Award after he smashed his fourth hundred of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 against Bangladesh on Tuesday. Rohit's 26th ODI hundred helped India bounce back strongly after their 31 run loss against hosts England. Electing to bat first, Rohit got the team off to a great start while KL Rahul gave him good company at the other end. At one stage, with the scoreboard reading 180 in 29 overs, India were all set for a total in excess of 350. But, some fine bowling from Mustafizur Rahman at the death restricted India to 315.
Yuvraj Singh, who was adjudged the Man of the Tournament for his all-round perfromance when India won the World Cup in 2011 was one among the many to have congratulated "Hitman" on Twitter. His tweet read,
With this century, Rohit Sharma tied with Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara's record for scoring four hundreds in a single World Cup and dislodged David Warner as the leading run getter of this tournament. He became the second Indian batsmen after Sachin Tendulkar to score 500 runs in a single edition. The little-master achieved this feat twice in his career - 673 runs in 2003 and 523 runs in 1996.
During the course of this knock, Rohit Sharma also overtook MS Dhoni's record for hitting the most sixes for Team India in ODIs. In the all-time record list, Rohit (230) is still behind Shahid Afridi (351), Chris Gayle (326) and Sanath Jayasuriya (270) at fourth position. He is expected to add some more to this tally and top the charts in this regard.
Team India will now face Sri Lanka in the final game of the league stage before the semis at Leeds on 6th July.
