Virat Kohli will need to look after his on-field behaviour during India's last league game with Sri Lanka on Saturday in the World Cup 2019, or risk getting banned for the semi-final clash.

Kohli was fined for excessive appealing and showing dissent at the umpire's decision for the second time in the tournament against Bangladesh, and could miss the semis, if he repeats his behaviour against Sri Lanka. Kohli already has two demerit points in the tournament after breaching Article 2.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which is linked to "excessive appealing in an international game."

Against Bangladesh, in the 12th over of the Bangladeshi innings, Marais Erasmus, the on field umpire, ruled a decision in favour of the Tigers. Kohli opted to take the DRS, but the third umpire stood by the on-field umpire's decision as he could not judge whether the ball had hit bat first or pad. Kohli was not in favour of the decision and had a lengthy chat with Erasmus. It earned him a demerit point.

Earlier in the edition, Kohli had been charged of appealing excessively against Afghanistan. which had fetched him a demerit point as well.

Kohli's first demerit point had come against South Africa in 2018. If a player gets four demerit points in two years, he is banned for two ODIs or one Test match. If Kohli gets another minus mark against the Lankans, Kohli will not only miss the semis, but the finals as well, if India qualify.
