Soni Razdan on trolling culture: If I criticize my country, it's not because I don't like it
At a press conference for her upcoming film No Fathers in Kashmir, Soni Razdan addressed the issue of actors being trolled for saying or not expressing their thoughts about their country. Read to know what she said.
Often, the citizens of the country look up to Bollywood actors to comment on situations which are related to issues of national importance. The opinion of Bollywood personalities is of interest to their fans. However, at times, when an actor or director chooses to keep quiet on a matter of national importance, there are people who start trolling them on social media and also call them anti-nationals. Addressing this issue recently, Soni Razdan mentioned that this is a common thing nowadays.
At a press conference at the trailer launch of her upcoming film No Fathers in Kashmir, Soni addressed the issue and mentioned that it is pretty common to troll celebrities in the name of patriotism. She mentioned that actors don't select films based on their patriotic feelings. It just is a coincidence that a certain film related to an issue might come their way and they get involved in it. Soni also mentioned that it is not just the actors who are responsible to make the society a better place. Even citizens should act responsibly.
She said, “I feel, if I criticize my country, it's not because I don't like my country, I love my country. That is my patriotism. I want to make it a better place for my children for everyone. And if we don't look at what's in front of us, and we allow things to get out of hand because of other vested interests. Then as citizens are not doing a good job. Forget being an actor-director, we as citizens have the responsibility to make the country a better place. And that doesn't mean advertising other people's agendas it means looking at what is wrong and making it right.”

She further added, “We get trolled tremendously and we get those ghastly remarks all over the place. I do believe that actors have responsibilities. I feel we have responsibilities as we are people who are seen. But one doesn't go around soliciting films where we can be responsible. It's just that sometimes one comes along and it's so rare that you want to be a part of vested interests.”
Soni’s film, No Fathers In Kashmir has waited a long time to get a chance to showcase its story to the audiences. No Fathers in Kashmir is directed by Oscar-nominated director, Ashvin Kumar. Earlier, the film was waiting for CBFC’s approval, and now, finally, they are all set to release the film on April 5, 2019.
