SAG Awards 2019: Bohemian Rhapsody's Rami Malek dedicates his win to Freddie Mercury
Rami Malek took home the Actor for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture for Bohemian Rhapsody. The actor gave a befitting tribute to the man he played on-screen, Queen's lead vocalist Freddie Mercury.
It was a night that belonged to the only and only Rami Malek! The SAG (Screen Actors Guild) Awards 2019 took place today as the award show celebrated its 25-year-anniversary since its inception. The best and brightest of Hollywood and TV, from the past year, were honoured for their brilliant performances. When it comes to the Actor for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture, it was very hard to choose between five extremely talented gentlemen.
However, there was one fan and critics' favourite and that was Rami Malek, for his insanely talented performance as Queen's lead vocalist Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. Rami beat the likes of Christian Bale (Vice), Bradley Cooper (A Star Is Born), Viggo Mortensen (Green Book) and John David Washington (BlacKkKlansman). After receiving the Actor and clad in an all-black ensemble, Malek was flabbergasted to be amongst his peers, who he has admired for years. Thanking his producers and the terrific supporting cast of Bohemian Rhapsody, Rami paid the befitting ode to Freddie Mercury.
"I thank Queen and Freddie Mercury. I get some power from him that is about stepping up and living your best life and being exactly who you want to be and accomplishing everything you so desire. I feel that, and he allows us all to feel that. So this is again for him," Rami humbly stated, which drew him a loud round of applause.
