Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Manto, which has been directed by Nandita Das is one of the most awaited films of the year. After having won the Best Film award at many international festivals, the story of writer Saadat Hasan Manto will release in the country next month. The makers released the trailer of the film on the eve of Independence Day. Nawazuddin Siddiqui nails the part as the prolific writer and the trailer gives us a peek into his spectacular performance in the gripping tale. The trailer takes us through the journey of Manto who leaves from Bombay during partition and shifts base to Lahore. He fights in court for the cases filed against him and fights for freedom.

Acclaimed director and actor Nandita Das, who has directed Firaaq earlier tweeted, “This 15th Aug is special for #Manto Inching closer to the release! @mantofilm” Nawazuddin Siddiqui also shared with his fans that the film’s trailer will release at midnight on Independence Day. He posted the trailer on his Twitter account and posted, "Bol ke lab azaad hai! This Independence Day, let’s celebrate the freedom that #Manto stood for." The film also stars Rasika Dugal, Divya Dutta, Rishi Kapoor and Tahir Raj Bhasin in pivotal characters. The film was screened at the Cannes Film Festival and received a standing ovation from the audience after the premiere.




Talking about the film, Nandita Das had told news agency IANS that Manto stood for freedom of expression through his writings and life struggles. She said that the writer challenged all forms of orthodoxy and had the conviction that is inspirational.

About casting Nawazuddin as Manto, she said that he has a similar kind of personality in terms of his views, arrogance, anger, sensitivity and humour and hence, it was a smooth ride for him to play the role of Sadat Hasan Manto.
