Jennifer Aniston's split with husband Justin Theroux after two years of marriage came as a shocker to many. The ex-couple released a statement confirming their break up which was mutual and amicable.

The statement reads, "In an effort to reduce any further speculation, we have decided to announce our separation. This decision was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year. We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship."

"Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly. Whatever else is printed about us that is not directly from us, is someone else’s fictional narrative. Above all, we are determined to maintain the deep respect and love that we have for one another," the statement continued.

In an interview with a leading UK news publication, when Jennifer's FRIENDS co-star and close friend Matt LeBlanc was asked about the split, the actor revealed, "I haven't spoken to Jennifer about it but I'm sure she's doing OK right now. She's a big girl."

Interestingly, it was on Valentine's day that Jennifer and Justin last met each other, according to a leading US-based entertainment website. A source close to Jennifer revealed, "They saw each other late at night on Valentine’s Day in L.A. They decided together that they would make the announcement the next day. Justin flew on a private jet to L.A. to see Jen one last time."
