BIG Blunder: International News Channel plays clips from Amitabh-Rishi Kapoor’s films instead of Shashi Kapoor
A leading international channel goofs up, plays videos from Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor's films while paying tribute to Shashi Kapoor
Veteran actor Shashi Kapoor who was suffering from a chest infection passed away yesterday. Bollywood paid its tribute to the original superstar by posting heartfelt messages on their social media accounts.
Stars like Saif Ali Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan and Ranbir Kapoor attended the funeral today. He was cremated with full state honors.
Shashi Kapoor had also acted in several English films such as The Householder, Bombay Talkie, Heat and Dust and many others. Kapoor was India's first actor to go international and work in English movies. He was Bollywood’s first cross-over star with a huge fan following in Russia and the West.
A leading international news channel paid tribute to the versatile actor. However, they goofed-up big time- while talking about Shashi Kapoor’s work they played clippings of Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor’s films. Twitterati erupted with anger over this blunder. They called the channel disrespectful and racist.
An enraged fan wrote, “#BBC News hire proper researchers! Report on legend #ShashiKapoor's death and you show #Amitabh and his brother #RishiKapoor but no clip of him or his iconic movies. Call yourself a news channel?” on Twitter, whereas another handle commented, “So BBC News mention the death of Shashi Kapoor yet show clips of Amitabh Bacchan”
Paul Royall sent out a tweet and apologized for the gaffe. “#BBCNewsTen is very sorry wrong images were used to mark the death of Shashi Kapoor. Not our usual standards and I apologise for any upset.”
