Usman Khawaja expected to be fit and available for selection for the first test of Ashes 2019, says Tim Paine
Australia’s batsman, Usman Khawaja who suffered from a hamstring injury in the World Cup 2019 clash against South Africa is expected to be fit for the Ashes.
Usman Khawaja was ruled out of the team from the ICC World Cup 2019 post his injury during the clash against South Africa. However, skipper Tim Paine expects the Australian batsman to be fully fit for the Ashes 2019 commencing from August 1. He will be unavailable for the team’s warm up match for the Ashes.
"I don't think he's in serious doubt (when asked about missing the ashes) He’s in rehab stage so the decision has been made that he won’t play at this stage," Tim Paine was quoted by cricket.com.au. However, Tim added that if something were to happen to someone else then there is a possibility that he might be right for the back end of the game. He also stated that the team expects him to be fully fit and available for selection for the first test.
Usman Khawaja holds an average of 42.53 in the 41 test matches that he has played so far which includes eight centuries and 14 half centuries. England and Australia will play five-test match Ashes which will commence from August 1 and the first match will be played at Edgbaston cricket ground. The squad for the Ashes will be revealed post the 4-day match between Hick XII and Haddin XII led by Tim Paine and Travid Head, respectively.
