One of the greatest cricketers to have played the game, Steve Waugh has picked the best knock of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 so for. While there have been several top quality knocks played by the likes of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Shakib Al Hasan, the legendary skipper went with Australia's skipper Aaron Finch as his pick for the best player of this current edition.

Till date, Finch has amassed 343 runs to his name at an average of 68.60 including two half centuries and a century at a commendable strike rate of 110.64.

When asked about the current Aussie skipper, Steve Waugh said, "He has remained calm and composed off the field in dealing with the media and has unquestionably been the premier batsmen of the tournament."

He also rated Finch's 153 against Sri Lanka as the best knock of the tournament so far. "His innings against Sri Lanka looked destined for a big number from ball one. On a good quality surface against a modest attack his balance, placement and power overwhelmed the opposition to the point where he was hitting to wherever, whenever he wanted," Waugh added.

The biggest shocker was when he was asked to pick the semi-finalists of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. He went in with defending champions and five time World Cup winners Australia , New Zealand and Team India. His decision to exclude hosts England and go with Sri Lanka as the fourth semi-finalist was the one which was last expected.

Halfway through the tournament, the top four sides- England, New Zealand, Australia and Team India have showed why they belong there owing to some brilliant performances from their proven match winners from time to time. But Steve Waugh justified his move to select Sri Lankan as the fourth semi-finalist by saying, "Each of these teams will be fine tuning and gathering impetus and knowledge before a final week where they only need to win two games to stand afloat. It could come down to one individual who leaves his mark and creates a legacy for himself and his team".
