Sri Lanka vs West Indies, ICC World Cup 2019: Key players from both sides to watch out for

Sri Lankan team that currently ranks seventh in the points table created a major upset in the World Cup by defeating the hosts by 20 runs. West Indies on the other hand is in the bottom two of the current rankings and is out of the race for semi-finals in the World Cup. Let’s have a look at the key players in this clash.

1. Lasith Malinga (Sri Lanka)- This Sri Lankan bowler played a major role in the team’s victory against England at Headingley Carnegie. Even though Sri Lanka is not officially out of the tournament, their chances of qualifying for the semi-finals are extremely low. Malinga claimed four crucial wickets in that game and gave away just 43 runs in his 10-over spell with an exceptional economy of 4.30. He was also the highest wicket-taker in the entire match and will once again look forward to contribute against the Windies.

2. Chris Gayle (West Indies)- Chris Gayle, who is playing his last World Cup, will surely be disappointed with West Indies’ inconsistent performance throughout the tournament. Even though, West Indies is officially out of the race to the semi-finals, the team will look forward to register their second win the tournament. Against the Black Caps, Chris smashed a brilliant half century and scored 87 runs off 84 deliveries with a strike rate of 103.57. The Windies will be highly dependent on this power hitter in order to put across a big total in this clash.
