The director of Thanne Vandi, Manika Vidya, clarifies that unlike the title of the film, the film is not based on the issue of Tamil Nadu’s water crisis. Read on!
Thanne Vandi, starring National Award winning actor Thambi Ramaiah’s son Umapathy Ramaiah and Vil Ambu fame Samskruthy is directed by debut filmmaker Manika Vidya, who was an assistant to filmmakers Rasu Madhuravan, Manoj Kumar and Tarun Gopi. As the title suggests, Thanne Vandi meaning Water Tanker, fans were instantly made to believe that the film is about water scarcity, however, the director put all such rumors to rest as he said that the film has nothing to do with this issue. “The film has nothing to do with this issue. The protagonist is basically a water supplier in Madurai, who happens to be a drunkard as well. So, it was more like having a double significance inherent to the story. But the story isn’t all about the water crisis nor does it showcase the protagonist addicted to alcohol all the time. It revolves around the humorous clash between the hero and a newly appointed District Revenue Officer.”
Talking about the most important role in the film of District Revenue Officer’s role, Manika said that the role holds a lot of importance and that is why they zeroed in on Ashwathias for the role. “Yes, it is a role that holds strong importance, especially for powerful dialogues. It was even liked by many leading artistes and finally we zeroed in on Ashwathias we felt her to be perfect for the role. She has delivered a laudable performance.”
While Thambi Ramaiah will be playing the reel dad of Umapathy in this film, other actors include Devadarshini, Bala Saravanan, Vidyullekha, Cheran Raj, Manoj Kumar, Jarge, Bava Lakshmanan, ‘Kadhal’ Sugumar, Mullai and Kothandam of Vijay TV fame, ‘Aadukalam’ Naren, Krishnamoorthy, Madurai Muthu of Sun TV, and Pichaikkaran Moorthy.
