South Indian film industry is in shock and disheartened to hear the sudden demise of director SP Jananathan. The National award-winning director passed away today morning at 10 AM, on March 14 while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Chennai. SP Jananathan's upcoming film Laabam's female lead actress Shruti Haasan penned a goodbye note for the director. As soon as the news took social media by storm, Shruti tweeted, "It is with the heaviest heart that We say goodbye to #SPJananathan sir - it was a pleasure working with you sir Thank you for your wisdom and kind words you will always be in my thoughts! My deepest condolences to his family." 

Many other celebs are offering heartfelt condolences to the Kollywood director on Twitter. Director Mohan Raja tweeted, "So heartbreaking this is...RIP #SPJananathan sir..Such an inspiration to me n many..A great soul to be remembered always.."

Harish Kalyan tweeted, "Extremely sad to hear about the demise of Dir #SPJananathan sir! One of the most sensible & socially responsible directors. My deepest condolences to his family & friends. May his soul RIP."

The critically acclaimed filmmaker SP Jananathan was admitted to Apollo Hospitals, Greams Road, on March 11 after he was found unconscious at his home by his Laabam team. SP Jananathan's demise is indeed a huge loss to the Tamil film industry. 

After Purampokku Engira Podhuvudamai in 2015, SP Jananathan was making a comeback in the direction with Laabam starring Vijay Sethupathi and Shruti Haasan in the lead roles. The makers had wrapped up the shoot and were working on the edit.
