Samantha Akkineni on Oh Baby: I can’t keep doing the same things that I’ve been doing in the past
Samantha Akkineni gets talking about Oh! Baby and despite being a challenging film, she could connect with it. Read on!
In no time, Samantha Akkineni has become an overnight sensation in the Tamil and Telugu film industries and after the success of Majili, Samantha is all pumped up for Oh Baby. As the film has hit the screens, Samantha got talking about the film and how one needs to work hard to achieve their dreams. “There’s no point sitting around complaining, carve your own path and make your own destiny. You can’t sit around waiting for good scripts. You have to make things happen. I’m at a stage in my career where I want to take a bit more responsibility. I can’t keep doing the same things that I’ve been doing in the past,” said Samantha.
Titled Oh! Baby, the film tells the story of a 70-year-old woman who transforms into her 24-year-old self after being photographed in a studio. Talking about Oh Baby, Samantha said that the role was challenging but she could connect with the film. “Not often do you get to play a role like this. It was extremely challenging and yet so fulfilling. There’s a reason why this film has been remade in seven languages; it’s a classic. It’s also a film that I connect with in so many ways,” informed Samantha.
Contrary to popular belief, Oh Baby is not the typical melodramatic film that all heroine centric films are expected to be, and talking about it, Samantha says, “There’s a misconception that heroine-centric films are all melodramatic, but Oh! Baby is a full-length comedy and it will leave the audience in splits. The film is filled with lots of witty samethalu (idioms) and situational comedy, which will resonate with the Telugu audience.” Oh! Baby is directed by Nandini and talking about the opportunity to work with the director, Samantha says, “Whether it’s male or female, it doesn’t really matter — what counts is capability. It was wonderful to work with Nandini Reddy. She had my back throughout the film and was like a sister to me.”
