Pa. Ranjith's speech at Thirupanandal in Thanjavur district landed him into trouble. Following this, a complaint was lodged by Hindu Makkal Katchi against the director.

Kaala and Kabali director Pa Ranjith was slapped with charges over his controversial speech about Rajaraja Cholan on June 11. He made a remark against the king and also made spoke about the castes in Tamil Nadu to claim the legacy of Cholan. However, his speech at Thirupanandal in Thanjavur district landed him into trouble. Following this, a complaint was lodged by Hindu Makkal Katchi against the director.

On Tuesday, the Madras High Court granted conditional anticipatory bail to Kaala director. The court has ordered the director from not making any controversial statements in the future that would create enmity between the groups and if he fails to oblige, the court will take necessary action. Ranjith had filed an anticipatory bail plea on June 12. He said in his bail plea, "As a chief guest at the event, I only spoke some of the truths about King Raja Raja Chozhan How to remove casteism? How to create a casteless society? I spoke about all these, including the plight of landless people, especially those from the delta regions mentioned in Umar Farooq’s Senthamizh Naatu Cherigal." 


The filmmaker was booked under Section 153  and Section 153 (A), which deals with charges of promoting with the conflict between different groups.
