The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Thursday denied the bail plea of standup comedian Munawar Faruqui who is accused of passing an indecent remark about Hindu deities during one of his shows. The Court also noted that it is one of the constitutional duties to promote harmony.  With this, several celebrities are sharing their stand on the issue.

Popular stand up comedian Karthik Kumar took to his Facebook space and shared a video in a sarcastic note saying that he could also be jailed soon as he too, is a standup comedian. Narrating the whole incident, Karthik Kumar posted the video, which received a huge response from his followers.

He said in the video, “I am sharing this because may be some people have not heard or don't know. Let us all admit and acknowledge that we live in a country where a stand up comedian has been jailed. Munawar Faruqui is in jail for a joke which he allegedly made. The cops have no evidence that he cracked the joke at all. The MP court has denied him bail because there's still a doubt whether he has cracked the joke or not. We live in a country where he is in the jail for the last 30 days. I may be in jail as well very soon. Because hey, hate speeches are okay. But comedy? No". Meanwhile, Karthik is currently busy with his directorial venture and it is expected that more details about the same will be updated soon.
