Mammootty’s Mamangam Audience Review: Here’s what Twitterati say about the periodic drama

Mammotty’s most expected Mollywood film of the year is Mamangam and it hits the big screens today. The periodic drama set in the 17th century narrates the story of ‘Chavers’ (suicide warriors) of feudal Kerala and their attempts to get over of the Zamorin ruler. Mammootty plays the lead role, Malabar and with the help of his loyalists, he tries to fight against the Zamorin ruler. Twitterati have been flooding the microblogging site with their reviews for the film.

Climax Mamangam Sequence

Overall Good movie #Mamangam

First half felt like an average fair
Set design and Ikka s feminine get up is great

Ametuerish direction in parts

The film was in soup after the former director Sanjeev Pillai was sacked by the makers. The filmmaker was deported even though half of the film was finished. The director had an unfortunate fallout with producer Venu Kunnappilly. The producers were apparently disappointed with the way the director handled the shooting process. The movie went on the floors again last year with a lot of hype and the makers made it clear that the work of Sanjeev Pillai was not retained. Sanjeev was also ousted as screenplay writer for the film.

While M Padmakumar of Joseph fame was roped in as the film’s new director, actor-director Shanker Ramakrishnan penned the screenplay by adapting Sanjeev’s story. The whole film was shot from the beginning. The film has Unni Mukundan, Prachi Tehlan, Neeraj Madav, Anu Sitara among others in key roles. M Jayachandran composed music for the film and Manoj Pillai handled cinematography, while Raja Mohammad edited the film.
