Mammootty expresses solidarity to Bhavana Menon in the alleged assault case; Says 'with you'
Malayalam cinema’s superstars Mammootty too expressed solidarity with the survivor, in the wake of the Bhavana Menon public statement in 2017 abduction-assault case.
Malayalam actress Bhavana Menon took a brave move by breaking her silence on the 2017 case in which she was allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted in Kerala. The assault case involved Malayalam actor Dileep as the mastermind along with other few. In a long Instagram post, Bhavana also mentioned how she faced humiliation over the years.
Many prominent personalities within and out of the movie industry have expressed their solidarity with the survivor and lauded her courage. Malayalam cinema’s superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal too expressed solidarity with the survivor, in the wake of the latter’s public statement.
Mammootty reshared the survivor’s note on his social media story and penned, “With you.”
On January 10, Bhavna released a statement on Instagram, which read, "This has not been an easy journey. The journey from being a victim to becoming a survivor. For 5 years now, my name and my identity have been suppressed under the weight of the assault inflicted on me. Though I am not the one who has committed the crime, there have been many attempts to humiliate, silence and isolate me. But at such times I have had some who stepped forward to keep my voice alive," she wrote on Instagram.
For the unversed, Bhavana was attacked and molested on February 17, 2017, in Kerala's Ernakulam district, in her car while she was on her way back home post film's shoot. She was abducted by a gang in a closed van.
