One of the Twitter users wrote, "#Vellam FDFS has been started all over #Kerala... In the 55 years of #CentralPictures History, this is their biggest release in terms of screen count..." This is the second film of Jayasurya with Prajesh Sen after the 2018 movie, Captain. It also stars Samyuktha Menon and Sreelakshmi. Vellam was originally scheduled to release in April 2020 but unfortunately, the team had to postpone it for the obvious reason.

#Vellam -

Not a brilliant drama, But definitely you will be shocked after watching career best performance of @Actor_Jayasurya as Murali. Your a blessing actor with more talent. If your a true cinema love plz watch it for outstanding performance of #Jayasuriya

#Vellam - Very slow paced movie that showcasing the life of a drunkard. #Jayasurya has came up with a stellar perfo as well as other cast is decent. Basic storyline is good but screenplay is not upto the mark. Climax portions are good. Technical side & music okable.

Watchable!

#Vellam is the sort of film that gives an actor like Jayasurya a lot of space to perform. I'm glad to see him in another strong performance after a while. One scene, in particular, got me all choked up.

Meanwhile, a lot of biggies from the Malayalam industry came together and requested the audience to visit theatres and watch the films with new guidelines. In a video, Mohanlal said, "This is a huge industry, a huge industry that employs many people. We make films for the audience. There are a lot of movies to come. You, the audience, must come to the theaters. Covid protocol must be followed. The entertainment industry must be saved."
