Renowned Telugu star Ram Pothineni has landed himself in some soup. The actor, who will soon be seen in iSmart Shankar, was in Hyderabad recently. The 31-year-old star was filming for the Tollywood film in the city when the cops caught him doing something illegal on the sets of iSmart Shankar. Before your imagination runs wild, we'll spill the beans. Reports have revealed that the actor had to pay a fine of Rs 200 for reportedly smoking in public while filming.
According to a Telangana Today report, Ram was filming in the city's iconic landmark Charminar for his upcoming movie. The actor was asked to light a cigarette as part of the scene for the movie. The shot led to the actor being fined for Rs 200 as the actor lit the smoke in a "no-smoking" area. The fine was slapped by the Hyderabad police on Monday. For the unversed, Charminar police recently began a drive against public smoking. It was under the drive that the actor was fined.
The report states that the Telugu star was fined under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COPTA) 2003. The actor paid off the fine and got off the hook. "During the shooting of the movie sequence, the actor was smoking a cigarette. We booked a case under Section 4 of the COTPA Act 2003 against him and levied a fine of Rs 200. The actor paid the fine amount,” said ACP Charminar B Anjaiah told the local newspaper. The report also states that about 20 people have been caught in the no-smoking zone.
As for the movie, iSmart Shankar began filming in January. The film completed two schedules and returned to Hyderabad for its third schedule. The crew travelled to Goa to film a portion of the film. iSmart Shankar is helmed by Puri Jagganadh and also stars Nabha Natesh, Nidhhi Agerwal, Brahmanandam, Rao Ramesh, Tanikella Bharani and Pavithra Lokesh.
