The 50th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) started with a bang today. The prestigious event is being held in Goa and the opening ceremony was a starry affair. Indusrty’s big shots like Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth, Karan Johar, international actors like Jonathan Reyes Myers, Isabelle Huppert etc graced the event. To note, ace filmmaker KJo hosted the opening ceremony. While the film festival has been grabbing a lot of attention, all eyes were on the red carpet today as stalwarts Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth walked the red carpet together.

To note, megastar Rajinikanth was felicitated with the Special Icon of Golden Jubilee award at the inaugural ceremony of the film festival. Interestingly, the Darbar actor was presented the award by Amitabh Bachchan in presence of Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar. It was indeed an overwhelming moment for Rajinikanth as he often called Big B his inspiration. Sharing his happiness over the award, the megastar thanked the Indian government, his colleagues and fans for the honour.

“I am extremely happy to receive the International Film Festival of India's prestigious Icon of Golden Jubilee award. My heartfelt thanks to the Indian government for honouring me with this award. I dedicate this award to all my producers, directors and technicians who worked in my films. And above all my fans and my Tamil makkal. Thank you. Jai Hind,” Rajinikanth added.

On the other hand, Bachchan also praised Rajinikanth and stated, “It is incredible that we have with us Rajinikanth, who has been inspiring us every day." For the uninitiated, Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan have shared the screen space in movies like Hum, Andhaa Kanoon and Giraftaar.

Apart from Rajinikanth, French actress Isabelle Rupert for also honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the opening ceremony. To note, over 9,000 delegates have already registered for the event, which is scheduled to screen over 200 films from 76 countries, including 26 feature films and 15 non-feature films as part of Indian Panorama. The film festival will end on November 28 this year.
