Ileana D'Cruz is known for her unconventional roles and impeccable acting chops down South. The actress has done many films in the South before taking up Bollywood projects. But her road to success was not an easy one as she battled different kind of struggles throughout her career. She is a big name down South before she made her debut in Hindi films with Ranbir Kapoor starrer Barfi! When asked about this transition from South to Bollywood, Ileana D'Cruz said, "I think the transition came in between because there were many offers that came anyway but they weren't that exciting... then with Barfi it was just as a story that stuck with me. I thought about it a lot. I just refused to let it go."

Sharing about her first audition, which was more like a normal conversation, Ileana said, "I remember when I went down South for the first time, I was being considered for a film being directed by Teja. He wanted an audition and I remember the casting director was really sweet. He just wanted me to have an actual conversation with actual co-star Nithiin. He wanted us to talk in English and it was fun, felt more like a conversation than anything. But he said something really very sweet. He said, 'if you ever goof up, just smile. You can get away with anything with your smile.' It was the sweetest thing, but I'm lucky that I didn't have to give auditions."

Laughing is a great way to burn calories. No really. It is.

However, she had to go through something weird when a South director threw a ceramic shell on her. Revealing about it, Ileana D'Cruz said, "There was a scene in my first film where her character is very attached to a particular shell. There is a sequence where the shell drops on her navel in slow motion and I honestly didn't know, I was very young, even with the romantic scenes, I was made to watch Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri because they had a great romance. So, I had no idea how to react and what it meant. So I just assumed and asked him, 'Why do you take shots of my navel.' For me it was weird. He is like it was a beautiful and very feminine thing. But I didn't understand anything and put down another thing like I just didn't get. It hurt a little bit as it was a ceramic shell and it was a little heavy."
