Sanal Kumar Sasidharan's malayalam film Chola has been shortlisted to compete at the prestigious Venice Film Festival. This film has been selected under the ‘Orizzonti’ competition category. This particular category is believed to run parallel to the mainstream competition. This is a special competitive category at this well-known festival. It is said that this category is fully dedicated to new films in world cinema which was launched in the year 2004. Chola, is expected to have its world premiere at Venice. This film had won big at the Kerala State Film Awards. Chola bagged four awards in the best male and female actor category. The film was awarded a special jury award for its direction and sound designing.

The director of Chola, Sanal says that his film is a road film just like his venture called S Durga. The films were based on two teenagers and the trip they take to the city. The director further adds that this film also portrays how people react differently in various situations and how sometimes those reactions are against individual expectations.

Actors Nimisha Sajayan and Joju George essay the lead roles in this film directed by Sanal Kumar Sasidharan. The film, Chola was called Shadow of Water in English. Sanal's previous work S Durga was the first Indian film to be awarded the Hivos Tiger award at the Rotterdam Film Festival in the year 2017. Sanal made his debut in direction with his film called Oralpokkam. The director got a lot of recognition for his second venture titled Ozhivudivasathe Kali.
