2015 romantic comedy-drama film, Premam changed the face of the Malayalam cinema. Written, edited, and directed by Alphonse Puthren, the film stars Nivin Pauly, Sai Pallavi, Madonna Sebastian and Anupama Parameswaran in the lead roles. The film not only changed people's perception towards cinema but was also a game-changing point for lead actors. The film also marked the debut of three promising actresses, Anupama Parameshwaran, Sai Pallavi and Madonna Sebastian.
Premam was released on 29 May, 2015 in India, followed by UAE on 11 June, and it opened to a massive response by the audience and critics. Premam is a romantic story that explores infatuation and love of a George (Nivin Pauly) from school days to his youth period. One day, George decides to propose to Mary (Anupama Parameswaran), but he is afraid of her father who beats up boys pestering his daughter to win her heart. Sai Pallavi plays the role of a teacher name Malar. Made on a budget of Rs 4 crore, the cult film went on to collect Rs 42 crore at the Kerala Box Office alone and total Rs 60 crore worldwide. It was the highest grossing Malayalam film of 2015. The film had a theatrical run of 151 days in Kerala and 259 days in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The film was remade in Telugu with the same name.
Not many might remember that the makers had chosen not to release the trailer of Premam before its release on the big screen.
