Indian opener, Shikhar Dhawan is ruled out of the on-going World Cup 2019 tournament after suffering from a thumb injury in the match against Australia.

Shikhar Dhawan, who played two matches in the tournament and registered a brilliant century against the Aussies has now been ruled out of the tournament. The Indian stalwart who fractured his thumb in that match was apparently ready to be back in the squad in the latter half of the tournament. However, it was confirmed on Wednesday that the Indian opener will no longer be able to play the remaining games resulting in his exclusion from the tournament. He will be replaced by Rishabh Pant in the team. Several Indian cricketers poured in their best wishes for the ‘Gabbar’ of the Indian cricket team. Let’s have a look at few of the tweets.

Legendary Indian cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar expressed his heartbreak by Dhawan's exit from the tournament and wished the young cricketer Rishabh Pant good luck for the tournament. He tweeted as, "Feel for you Shikhar. You were playing well & to be injured in the middle of such an important tournament is heartbreaking. I’m sure you’ll come back stronger than ever. Rishabh you’ve been playing well & there can’t be a bigger platform to express yourself. Good luck!"


Indian opening batsman, Rohit Sharma tweeted as, “Speedy recovery partner @SDhawan25”.



Legendary batsman VVS Laxman tweeted as, “Heart breaking news for @SDhawan25 . Its never easy for any player to be ruled out of a world cup due to injury. Stay strong Shikhar”.



Suresh Raina also tweeted as, “Really unfortunate for a player of such caliber to be ruled out of the World Cup owing to an injury. Big loss for the team. Wishing you a speedy recovery brother @SDhawan25. Best of luck & lots of success for a fantastic season @RishabPant777”.




Ravichandran Ashwin also poured his wishes for the Indian opener. He tweeted as, “It's so heartbreaking to be ruled out of a world cup due to injury, my heart goes out to @SDhawan25. Well done on your contribution so far buddy, get well soon. #Dhawan #ICCCricketWorldCup2019.”



Irfan Pathan tweeted as, “Big loss for team India losing @SDhawan25 at the same time great opportunity for @RishabPant777 to get his one day career going on the uphill direction #india #worldcup”.




Mohammad Kaif appreciated Shikhar for his brilliant century against Australia and tweeted, “Feel for @SDhawan25 , but he can be very proud of his contribution, scoring an invaluable century with a fractured thumb".



Gautam Gambhir expressed his disappointment and urged people to not put any undue pressure on Rishabh Pant who will be replacing Shikhar. He tweeted as “Disappointed to know that @SDhawan25 will no longer take part in @cricketworldcup, he looked so much a part. My thoughts are with u brotherman but don’t worry not the end of the world. And best wishes to @RishabPant777. I’d urge that we don’t put any undue pressure on Rishabh.”
