Series between India and Zimbabwe in doubt as Zimbabwe Cricket suspended; BCCI to take call in October
Guwahati, Indore and Pune are supposed to hold the three T20Is between India and Zimbabwe in January 2020, but if the suspension on ZC stays, the BCCI will look for other teams to fill-in
The suspension of Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) by the ICC on Thursday has put doubts on the series between Zimbabwe and India that was scheduled to be held in January. However, the BCCI has decided to wait till October before taking a final call on the fate of the series.
The International Cricket Council unanimously suspended ZC from all international games after it found that the governemnet was interfering in the functioning of the cricket body. This went against ICC's policy mentioned in Article 2.4 (c) and (d), where cricket boards are expected to have free and democratic elections.
This suspension has put India's T20I series against Zimbabwe, which was scheduled for January 5, January 7 and January 10, in doubt.
"Right now, we are not really thinking of any back-up plan. We will wait for the ICC quarterly meeting on October 16. Since they have been given three months to get their house in order, it is only prudent that we wait," a senior BCCI told PTI.
"We hope they get their house in order or else we will have to have some plans in place," he said.
If the series against Zimbabwe does not materialize, then the BCCI will ask either Aghanistan, Sri Lanka or West Indies to fill-in.
