Pakistan lost their previous game against India at Old Trafford, Manchester on 16th June 2019. They only lost the game, but were completely outplayed by Team India. With this victory, Team India extended their unbeaten run in World Cups against Pakistan to seven matches after crushing them by 89 runs.

During the game, Skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed yawned a couple of times behind the stumps and this video took the internet by storm and received severe backlash from their fans. The fact that Pakistan lost the game gave people additional opportunity to criticize the skipper and the team.

On the eve of their game against South Africa, Pakistan Skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed who addressed the media talked about the yawning as well. "I was just yawning, it can happen. I didn’t commit a crime or something, yawning is pretty normal, I had to so I had to. People have milked the occasion and made money out of it. If good things happen for someone because of me that's actually useful", he said.

Ever since the defeat against Team India, the Pakistan side has been subject to extreme reactions from their fans. They have hurled abuses at the players' fitness levels, their off-field activities, their eating habits and so on. Some fans went to the extent of comparing Sarfaraz Ahmed with that of a pig. Such reactions has not gone well among the Pakistani players.

Pakistan now have a daunting task of winning all their games in order to qualify for the semi-finals.
