Rohit Sharma’s controversial wicket raises several questions on umpiring in World Cup 2019; Twitter reacts
Rohit Sharma gets out after scoring 18 runs off 23 deliveries against West Indies, fans questions the poor umpiring standards in the tournament.
Virat Kohli who leads the Men in Blue, won the toss and elected to bat first in the 34th match of the tournament. The Indian team have remained unbeaten so far in this World Cup and will look forward to continue their winning streak against the Windies. However, the team looked in trouble in the early overs of the match itself when their opening batsman, Rohit Sharma's controversial wicket led to several questions raised on the umpiring standards of the tournament.
Rohit scored 18 runs off 23 deliveries before losing his wicket to Kemar Roach. Rohit’s wicket, however, was a debatable topic in the match and the fans took on to social media to express their disappointment. Initially, the umpire didn’t raise a finger but the DRS taken by the Windies favoured them and Rohit had to go back to the pavilion. The Windies took the DRS and the replayed however showed that the ball had hit the pad. There was a spike on the Ultra Edge and the third umpire Michael Gough made his decision which led the Indian opener to go back to the pavilion.
Rohit Shrama and KL Rahul who were looking forward for a steady start were definitely not happy with the umpire’s call but the West Indies team managed to get their first breakthrough in the innings. The fans and the experts had several opinions to share about the on-going controversial and poor umpiring in the tournament. Let’s have a look at few of the tweets.
There is just too much at stake for third umpires to make mistakes
