With #RM1IsComing, ARMY celebrates the 6 year anniversary of BTS’ leader RM’s first mixtape
From #RM1IsComing to a fun hashtag with a play on RM’s name, #monsteRMarch, this is how the fandom celebrated group leader’s debut mixtape.
March 11, 2015 marks an important day in the life of BTS and ARMY. It was the day Namjoon, aka RM, released the concept and poster for his first solo mixtape titled RM. Released on SoundCloud by Big Hit, the album consists of eleven songs penned by the rapper/songwriter himself.
The mixtape was many ARMY's first look into the songwriting prowess that RM (known as Rap Monster then) possessed. Raw emotions, intense thoughts and self-identification lyrics connected very well with the fandom. In addition to the incredible lyrics, the audience was also introduced to the rapper’s talent of holding a beat, moving to the beat and knowing his rhythm, rhymes and tones. He had collaborated with different producers and singers for some of his songs and produced a hip hop masterpiece. As the leader was still young in 2015, the tracks mostly talked about his younger days of not sticking to stereotypes, making his own path and his ever-growing passion for hip hop.

The mixtape in itself is a whole journey - with a start, a middle and an ending. RM starts with talking about his younger days in the background of a simple piano tune in Voice. In the next track, Do You, he talks about the insecurities and the haters and in a monotonous, addictive chorus, advises the audience to break from society’s norm and do what they want to. The other songs then take the listener on various phases of his life - the identity crisis of being an idol or an artist, the hate, the prejudice, to having faith in yourself and determining your own path.
What better way of ringing in the 6 year anniversary than pretending it’s releasing for the first time? ARMYs way of throwing an anniversary party surely is great!
