Record of Youth Ep 9: Park Bo Gum finally tastes success as he wins Best Actor given to him by Park Seo Joon
*SPOILERS ALERT* Record of Youth Ep 9 saw Park Bo-gum's gamble of choosing a period drama over a romantic series pay off as he took home the Best Actor trophy with Park Seo-joon as the presenter.
*SPOILERS ALERT* After years and years of struggles and family pressure, Sa Hye-joon (Park Bo-gum) finally achieved some well-deserved success in last night's episode of Record of Youth. Before we jump into Hye-joon's big award show moment along with the highly-awaited Park Seo-joon cameo, let's recap all that happened during Record of Youth Ep 9.
For Hye-joon, coming fresh off the success of his medical drama Gateway, the demand for him obviously increased with fangirls and advertisements galore. This was especially seen during a press conference for Catch, the drama starring Park Do-ha (Kim Gun-woo) and Won Hae-hyo (Byun Woo-seok) as the main leads. Even though Hye-joon had a very small part, he was asked to be a part of the PC because of his rising popularity and ended up stealing the show when the MC happened to be a big fan of his as well. While Hye-joon's agent Lee Min-jae (Shin Dong-mi) tries to convince him to take up the romantic drama Love and Guilt as his next project, Hye-joon sticks to his principles and chooses a period drama titled The King Returns instead.
Hye-joon's gamble pays off and he's declared as the next big star with a Best Actor nomination for The King Returns, competing alongside Do-ha, which obviously irritates the latter. On the other hand, Hae-hyo is starting to realise how his best friend is getting ahead of him with the exciting roles coming Hye-joon's way while the former's mother Kim Yi-young (Shin Ae-ra) reprimands him for slacking off. Nonetheless, Hae-hyo still shows his happiness and loyalty to his best friend when he refuses to gossip about Hye-joon with Do-ha and is genuinely happy for Hye-joon's Best Actor win.
As for Ahn Jung-ha (Park So-dam), the makeup artist has problems of her own as she plans to sell her house to kickstart her own beauty salon. We also see an emotional moment between Jung-ha and her father as the latter apologises for not being there for her during her childhood and how it led to her taking up her own burdens without seeking any help from her parents. While Hye-joon has a packed schedule, he makes sure to at least call and text his girlfriend from time to time and for that Jung-ha can't wipe the smile off her face.
Eventually, we get to the 2019 OVN Drama Awards for which Hye-joon is an MC. Because he's hosting, everyone including Hye-joon is convinced that he will not win Best Actor. We then see Park Seo-joon as acting senior and top star Song Min-su, last year's Best Actor winner, appear on stage to give out the award to this year's winner. Hye-joon and Min-su have some fun on stage during their back-and-forth shenanigans showing their cordial friendship as they both started off as models.
Eventually, the time came to announce the winner and much to everyone's shock, Min-su announced Hye-joon as Best Actor. A stumped Hye-joon made sure to give a shoutout to his grandfather Sa Min-gi (Han Jin-hee) and mother Han Ye-sook (Ha Hee-ra) for always having his back while snubbing his father Sa Young-nam (Park Soo-young) which leaves the latter disappointed. Furthermore, in his acceptance speech, Hye-joon sheds light on the struggles he has faced while celebrating his big win.
We also have Kim Jin-woo (Kwon Soo-hyun) and Hae-hyo's sister Won Hae-na (Jo Yoo-jung), whose romance crossed another level with the two finally getting intimate. However, Jin-woo is left stumped when he finds out that his mother Lee Kyung-mi (Park Sung-yeon) is working at the Won household as a cook.

Meanwhile, Record of Youth's next episode, which airs tonight, will feature Seo-joon once again. In Record of Youth Ep 10's promo shared, we see Min-jae taking a photo of Min-su, Hye-joon, Hae-hyo and Jin-woo with their arms around each other. While Hye-joon is surrounded by his fans post his win, Jung-ha is seen looking longingly at her boyfriend. A downtrodden Hae-hyo finds solace in Jung-ha as the two spend time together going on a drive while singing out loud. While discussing if he wants to be a star or an actor, Hae-hyo confesses to Jung-ha that he hates being compared to Hye-joon. Hye-joon asks Min-jae if she's seen Jung-ha.
Moreover, Hye-joon is confronted by his elder brother Sa Kyung-joon (Lee Jae-won) for not mentioning their dad's name in his acceptance speech which has the former questioning his sibling as to why is he so childish. Twice the trouble brews for Hye-joon as his ex-girlfriend Jeong Ji-ah (Seol In-ah) visits him on set telling Hye-joon that she misses him. We also have Hye-joon's previous agent and Do-ha's current agent Lee Tae-su (Lee Chang-hoon) who is hell-bent on ruining the actor's reputation and spreads vile rumours about Charlie Jung (Lee Seung-joon), the fashion designer who was in love with Hye-joon. Min-jae warns Hye-joon to be careful of paparazzi before hugging his girlfriend while the latter gets confronted about Jung.
