R Ashwin shares heartwarming video of stunned Stuart Broad reacting after England won World Cup 2019
The win by England yesterday was not just a result of the hard work of the 15 members in the World Cup squad, but also a culmination of the sustained efforts of all international cricketers from the country who had done their best to help England cricket along the way.
England clinched their maiden World Cup title in a nail-biting final against New Zealand at Lord's on Sunday. It not only sent fans around the world into euphoria, but also stunned former and current cricketers from England, who have waited a long time for the title.
Ravichandran Ashwin, who is currently playing County Cricket for Nottinghamshire, captured the reactions of his English teammates as the last over was panning out. England, in the last over of the game, needed 15 off the final over with Ben Stokes on strike. The teamates in the dressing room in Ashwin's video remained tense in the first few deliveries, only to jump up in joy as Martin Guptill's throw ricocheted off Ben Stokes' bat and went towards the boundary for overthrows. Six runs were awarded to the English side, as the batsman had taken two while running. The equation came down to three in two balls, and the game was eventually tied.
The Super Over was tied as well, but England won the title as they hit more fours in the game.
In Ashwin's video, current England player Stuart Broad who is active in the Test circuit, is unable to control his emotions. He shared Ashwin's video and captioned it, "Videos of emotion from #CWC19Final, we all must have them?! @ashwinravi99 captured the @TrentBridge changing room when, at the most crucial point of the match, a 1 in a million deflection went for '6'. Breathtaking, never seen anything like it. I love Cricket @englandcricket.”
The reason why the video is heartwarming is because it reflects the fulfilment of a long held dream. Broad had been a constant in the ODI side, before he decided to focus only on Tests. The win by England yesterday was not just a result of the hard work of the 15 members in the World Cup squad, but also a culmination of the sustained efforts of all international cricketers from the country who had done their best to help England cricket along the way.
