It's still hard to digest that veteran actor and all-around charmer Shashi Kapoor is no more with us. Shashi ji passed away at the age of 79 yesterday, owing to a prolonged illness.

The handsome actor is known to be a part of many successful movies (116 Hindi movies to be exact) which include Deewar, Namak Halal, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Kaala Patthar, Dharma Putra, Awaara, Kabhie Kabhie, just to name a few. Shashi ji debuted as the leading man in Dharmputra (1961). He was last seen in the English film Side Street (1998).

Many Bollywood celebrities came forward to offer their condolences through social media. Veteran actor Dharmendra took to Instagram to go down the memory lane as he remembered Shashi ji. Dharmendra and Shashi Kapoor had starred in the movie Krodhi (1981).

The actor shared a bittersweet throwback picture of a young Shashi Kapoor smiling about something that was being said to him by his brother and legendary actor Raj Kapoor who looks fondly at his younger brother.

You have been a childhood admiration, a wonderful actor and a beautiful human being .. this world is going to miss you Shashi!!

His caption to the throwback photos reads as, "You have been a childhood admiration, a wonderful actor and a beautiful human being .. this world is going to miss you Shashi!!"

Bollywood has lost another gem, indeed!

Interestingly, Shashi Kapoor's late father and veteran actor Prithviraj Kapoor had founded Prithvi Theatres in 1942 which was a travelling troupe. Shashi ji had toured with the troupe and acted in Prithviraj Kapoor's plays. Prithviraj Kapoor had the dream to have a permanent place for his theatre group and even acquired a property in Juhu. However, he could not fulfill it as he died in 1972. However, Shashi ji and his late wife Jennifer Kapoor saw to it that his father's wish would indeed come true and that is how the famous Prithvi theatre was born.

Shashi Kapoor is now survived by three kids Karan Kapoor, Kunal Kapoor and Sanjana Kapoor.

Rest in Peace, Shashi ji!
