Sridevi felicitated at Indian Cinema Centenary Fest
It's raining honours for Indian Cinema's First Female Superstar Sridevi. Barely months after receiving the prestigious Padma Shri honour from President Pranab Mukherjee, the actress was again felicitated by the President in Chennai on Tuesday. Also present at the event was Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister Jayalalitha.
On the occasion of '100 Years of Indian Cinema', a mega-valedictory ceremony was organised in the city to honour the greatest celluloid legends. For her incomparable contribution to Indian Cinema spanning over five decades in five languages and 250+ films, the iconic Sridevi was felicitated with a Medallion of Honour. Dressed in a glittering Sabyasachi saree, the superstar actress was described as 'a star who blazed a trail across India.' Interestingly Sridevi remains the only Indian actress to have ruled Hindi, Tamil and Telugu film industries simultaneously. After a 15 year break, she made a historic comeback with the global hit English Vinglish in 2012. In 2013, Sridevi was voted 'India's Greatest Actress in 100 Years' by a national CNN-IBN poll.
Other Bollywood legends honoured at this dazzling event included Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha, Javed Akhtar, Ramesh Sippy and Randhir Kapoor. A special audio visual cassette commemorating the 100-year journey of Indian cinema was released on the occasion. Tamil Nadu governor K. Rosaiah released a souvenir to mark Indian cinema at 100 and presented the first copy to the President.
