Shahid Kapoor-Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone starrer Padmaavat released after facing much opposition from various Rajput groups. The protestors had resorted to violence and had threatened the cast with physical harm.Shahid Kapoor who plays the role of a noble king in the film had time and again requested the protestors to give the film a chance.

Shahid’s portrayal of a warrior king in the film has been highly appreciated. Fans as well as critics are immensely impressed with Shahid’s subtle and restrained performance.

About the film and his role, Shahid had said, “It was one of the biggest risks of my career to take a role like this where for one-and-a-half years nobody knew what it is... So many people had told me why are you doing this film. I knew my character is an underdog in the film, I'm happy that the hero of the film is getting so much love. Out of the three characters, people know a lot about Padmavati, about Alauddin Khilji, but nobody knows about Rawal Ratan Singh. Now you know his journey was also so spectacular.”
