Shah Rukh Khan recently joined the ranks of Mallika Sarabhai, Shabana Azmi and Amitabh Bachchan after receiving the prestigious Crystal Award at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos. He was honored with this award for his leadership in championing children’s and women’s rights in India. Shah Rukh Khan has been working with women who have been victims of acid attack through his NGO- Meer Foundation.
Shah Rukh Khan had given an inspirational speech after winning the Crystal Award in which he spoke about the need for power reversal, the importance of service of others and about women empowerment.
Shah Rukh had said, “Actors are renowned narcissists. No matter how much we pretend to not to believe in external beauty, we tend to be obsessed by it, one way or another. Perhaps being surrounded by this obsession of beauty, a few years ago I came across a lady who had been brutalized by an acid attack and it kind of changed my life, or the perspective of it at least. To disfigure a woman by throwing acid on her face, to me, is one of the crudest acts of subjugation imaginable.”
Meanwhile, on the work front, SRK is busy shooting for Aanand L Rai’s Zero. The movie also stars Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in lead roles.
