It's been 51 glorious years for Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu.
Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu's love story is a legendary role model for successful marriages in Bollywood. Their love overcame an age difference of 22 years and is still going strong. Today, they are celebrating their 51st wedding anniversary. Dilip Kumar took to Twitter to post the pictures of the special day.
Saira Banu was in love with Dilip from the age of 12. When she was 16, she went to see the show of Mughal-E-Azam Maratha Mandir just to take a glimpse of the actor. Saira Banu’s mother Naseem Banu played the role of a cupid between Dilip and Saira.
Dilip proposed to Sara while she was shooting for Jhuk Gaya Aasmaan. The couple tied the knot in 1966. He was 44 and she was barely 22. Post marriage, they worked in movies like Gopi (1970), Choti Bahu (1971), Duniya (1984), Sagina (1974) and Bairaag (1976).
In 1976, Saira completely gave up working completely to devote her time to husband Dilip. Their marriage hit a roadblock when in 1980, Dilip Kumar had an extramarital affair with a Pakistani woman Asma.
But, it was Saira's love for Dilip that made things perfect once again. Saira completes him and he can't imagine his life without her. The two have won all the battles together.
It's been 51 glorious years for Saira Banu-Dilip Kumar. Dilip Saab's health deteriorated but Saira was standing next to him holding his hand. In an interview with a leading daily, Saira said, "It’s a fact that ever since I became an actress, and in fact, even before that, I just wanted to be Dilip Saab's wife. Material gifts are good, and yes, they make one happy. But, the gift of love is the biggest gift one could ever get. And I’m lucky that I have got that love from him."
Years have passed by, but Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu's love is still intact...
