A few years back, Kunal spoke at length about his parents - Shashi Kapoor and Jennifer Kendal and how the legendary actor missed his wife's presence at Prithvi theatre. Kunal stated, "My mother was a lot of fun and she was a source of inspiration, had a great balance and was always positive. It's been 28 years since she died but I don't think dad ever completely recovered after her death. She died when she was 50 and he was 46. He could have remarried but for him that was not an option. They were soulmates. Every relationship has its share of problems but their connection was rare and unusually strong."
He had also spoken about how his father's health has not been well for the past few years. Kunal added, "He is a recluse and warms up only when he sees his family and grandkids. He has difficulty speaking and so, does not talk much."
Shashi Kapoor is known to be a part of many successful movies (116 Hindi movies to be exact) which include Deewar, Namak Halal, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Kaala Patthar, Dharma Putra, Awaara, Kabhie Kabhie, just to name a few. Shashi ji debuted as the leading man in Dharmputra (1961). He was last seen in the English film Side Street (1998).
