In an interview with a leading daily, Akshay was asked many big stars in Bollywood abstain from doing films based on toilets and sanitary pads, what is his reason of doing such films? On this, he said, "You will be glad to know that social media has been abuzz about sanitary pads. Actually even Hollywood has never made a film on it, there has not been a single film on sanitary pads. They made a movie on condoms or sperm or anything, but they have never made it on that (pads). It's apparently a very taboo subject, especially in India where 82% of Indian women don't use sanitary pads because they don't know about it or maybe they don't have money for it or they believe from their mothers that they have learnt that using a red cloth is much better than using sanitary pad. Nobody tells them that vital cancer can happen and they cannot give birth because of diseases that form in the vagina and things like that. In our society, no one talks about all these things and now it is high time that it should be discussed. What I feel is, that the day should come and it will come, when a daughter asks her father to get her a pad while returning from work. It should be just like getting a toothbrush, and you buy it at the same place where you get your toothbrush."
"What is the big deal about that? But the people have made this a taboo, that you cannot go to the kitchen and all. It's a natural thing and if not natural then god has only given us and because of the menstruation you and I have been born. I'll tell you one incident, when I was shooting where two local actors were taken and they worked very good in the first two days and then on the third day they were supposed to hold sanitary pads and say few lines but they ran away and when one of them was called on phone and asked to come back, he said, 'No.... no.... We don't touch such unethical things'," added the actor.
