Kalank goes on floors; Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt share photos from the sets

Karan Johar announced his dream project, Abhishek Varman’s Kalank today. The film will be set in 1940’s and has an illustrious cast- Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sonakshi Sinha.

The film went on floors today and David Dhawan, Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala were present on the sets. Alia Bhatt shared a photo of the three of them and captioned it, “The men in RED and BLACK :) Day 1 of #Kalank calls for a visit to set from the 3 most important people! What a way to begin the film!! @karanjohar @NGEMovies #DavidDhawan @Varun_dvn”

Varun Dhawan also shared a photo of the producers, Karan and Sajid and posted, “It begins #kalank”. Varun also shared a photo of co-stars Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapur.

About the film, Karan told a leading daily, “Kalank has been an emotional journey for me. A germ of an idea that I had nearly 15 years ago; a film that was in pre-production stage helmed by my father. I am now proud to pass it on to the capable and visionary hands of our director, Abhishek. The film is a beautifully structured story by Shibani Bathija, and has an exceptionally fluid narrative and screenplay by Abhishek.”

A source informed a daily, “When Yash Johar was toying with the idea of making this epic drama, he had done a lot of research. He had even visited Lahore to understand how the situation could have been in the ‘40s, but he couldn’t start the project."
