Imtiaz Ali at the launch of Chandrima Pal’s first novel 'A Song for I'
Crossword – India’s leading lifestyle bookstore, hosted the launch of Chandrima Pal’s first novel 'A Song for I'. Also present with Chandrima at the launch was Bollywood director-writer, Imtiaz Ali at Crossword’s Kemps Corner outlet.
'A Song for I' is about Ira, an amateur sitar player and freelance journalist born to a mother, who chose to die rather than live under her husband’s shadow, and a father who abandoned her at birth. Ira grows up in an emotionally wracked household with her grandparents, the Samaddars, and an enigmatic aunt, Mrinalini fighting to not let the latter write her destiny. Driven by the yearning to move towards the greatness she believes she is destined for, Ira confronts the challenges life throws at her some cordially, some others grudgingly. That’s when she meets Vishnu, an aspiring rocker. Ira spontaneously embraces Vishnu’s exciting and dark universe, until she realises she cannot settle for the ordinary. With Indian classical and rock music as the duelling backdrops, ‘A Song for I’ is about love lost and found, spiritual music, sensual experiences, of epiphanies in the Himalayas, and falling in and out of relationships. It is about Ira’s journey to find her song.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Kinjal Shah, COO, Crossword Bookstores said, "We are delighted to launch Chandrima Pal’s first novel on the Crossword platform. I look forward to reading it and we wish her the very best."
Chandrima Pal has been a journalist for fifteen years and has interviewed political bigwigs to cultural stalwarts. When she is not writing, she is usually in the kitchen, where she perfects her brand of culinary alchemy under the watchful gaze of a couple of pigeons and three roving sparrows. But she likes nothing better than traveling with her guitar-playing husband deep and high in the Himalayas and Europe being her favourite destinations. A Song for I is her debut novel.
