Karan Johar had taken everyone by surprise when he announced the birth of his twins Yash Johar and Roohi Johar via surrogacy last year. The two turn one today and as a part of the celebrations, Karan will be hosting an intimate bash this evening with Taimur Ali Khan, Adira and other kids making a starry appearance.

Karan had earlier revealed that while he named his son after his deceased father's name, Roohi is an anagram of her mother's name Hiroo. The filmmaker had introduced the kids to the world on Rakshabandhan.

Yash and Roohi have been making quite a few public appearances of late and it is indeed a sight to behold. Karan too keeps on sharing pictures of the two tots and their funny expressions are enough to warm your hearts.

Dad Karan has time and again expressed his happiness and excitement in a heartfelt note about turning a father.

A walk down the memory trip and you might recall the number of times Karan got emotional and couldn't stop gushing about his twins.

When Karan announced turning a father:

Karan took the internet by storm when he announced the arrival of his babies. He wrote, “I feel enormously blessed to be a parent to these pieces of my heart. I have prepared myself mentally, physically, emotionally and logistically to ensure that my children get all the unconditional love, care and attention from me and mine. I have submitted to the fact that my children are my world and priority. My work travels and social commitments would have to take a back seat.”

Open Letter:

Later, in an open letter, Karan opened up about the premature birth of his babies and the about embracing parenthood.

“My children were born two months premature and worryingly underweight. Like any person in this situation and on the brink of fatherhood, my heart sank. Knowing that there were complications with my babies birth owing to how soon it was, I was terrified. All I wanted to do was hold them and protect them but they needed to be in the NICU. It was painful to see how tiny they were…” a part of his letter read.

Holding Roohi for the first time:

Karan also shared the feeling of holding his daughter Roohi for the first time. He said, “When I held them for the first time, I don’t think I can describe the feeling. I cannot explain what I felt. I just sat in the chair and held my daughter first, as she is a little more vulnerable medically. I didn’t even realise there were tears rolling down my face. That feeling cannot be replaced by any other emotion.”

Doesn't want them to grow on a film sets:

Karan had said, "I am not a big fan of taking my children to a place of work...They should enjoy. I don't want them to grow up on a film set. I don't want them to grow up with that you have to be a part of a film industry only."

When he accepted that he has high expectations from his kids:

In a heartfelt letter, Karan had revealed that just like any other parent, he too has expectations from his kids. "Just like any other parent, I too have a lot of expectations from you (Roohi and Yash). This expectation is necessary because we build our foundation based on them. Your grandmother (Hiroo Johar) has told me and will also tell you that bookish knowledge is not everything," he said.

Another heartfelt letter:

Karan, when appeared on Ted Talks India Nayi Soch, read out a heartfelt letter for his kids which will move you to tears.

He said, “As you grow up, people will try to label you according to colour, looks, religion, popularity and money. People will gossip about you, but know that no one can label you. Just because you are different, it doesn’t make you wrong. You may be treated differently in school; mothers of your classmates will come to drop them, but you will have your father to take care of that. While most of your classmates’ mothers will make a WhatsApp group to discuss your homework, I will be the only father in it."

Calling them his Universe:

As Roohi and Yash turn one today, Karan shared a picture of the two calling them his Universe.

"I can’t thank the universe enough for giving my mother and me the most beautiful gift ever….Happy Birthday Roohi and Yash….you are a blessing to us," he wrote.

Aren't they just too adorable?

Happy Birthday, Roohi and Yash!
