Dhadak is an adaptation of Marathi hit film Sairat (2016) which was directed by Nagraj Manjule. The Marathi film starred Rinku Rajguru and Akash Thosar in lead roles.

The song Zingaat from Sairat is one of the most popular songs and this peppy dance number has become a hit at the weddings, parties or any function or festival. The music directors of Sairat, Ajay-Atul also composed the music of Dhadak. They composed the Hindi version of Zingaat and Ishaan and Janhvi dance their heart out in the song.

Other songs that are out from the film are the title track and recently released Pehli Baar. The tune of Pehli Baar is similar to Yad Lagla song from Sairat.

Sairat was set in a village from Maharashtra and the city of Hyderabad, whereas Dhadak's story set in the backdrop of a village from Rajasthan and Kolkata city.
