Neeraj Pandey's directorial Aiyaary stars Manoj Bajpayee, Sidharth Malhotra and Rakul Preet Singh in lead roles. It released on February 16, 2018, and got an average opening at the box-office. But, the film failed to make a mark and impress the audience.

Manoj is the mentor while Sidharth plays his protégé in the film. Aiyaary is based on a real-life incident that revolves around two strong-minded army officers having completely different views, yet right in their own ways.

In the first week of its release, the film has only managed to earn Rs 16 crore at the box office. The film has turned out to be a commercial flop.

Talking about Aiyaary, Neeraj Pandey had earlier revealed his inspiration behind the film in an interview with a leading daily. He said, "Again reality of what’s going around and awareness of the fact that someone needs to talk about these things – that being the underlying reason. Also, it was a fantastic story. Once you see the film, you’ll agree that something like this has never been spoken about in this format. So, that was the temptation to address a story like this."

When asked about the delay impacting the film, the director had said, "In our case, we have had to extend the marketing campaign by three weeks and repackage it twice. There are stickers on posters now, announcing the new dates, and they look awful. It’s a logistical nightmare and there is also the fear of losing viewers."

Aiyaary is facing a tough fight from its Hollywood competitor Black Panther.
