Sonam Kapoor attended the 64th National Film Awards ceremony in the capital city's Vigyan Bhavan along with near and dear ones. It was all about celebrating the win with family as Sonam was accompanied by dad Anil Kapoor, mom Sunita Kapoor and alleged beau Anand Ahuja. Sonam, who has got a Special Mention for her brave act in Neerja, looked gorgeous as always. She styled up in a subtle pistachio green sari, with heavy kundan jewellery. The B-town fashionista tied her hair in a neat bun with 'gajra' in place.

Anil Kapoor on the other hand was dressed in a black bandhgala and was thrilled with his daughter's big win. "Dressed up and all set to accompany Sonam Kapoor for the National Awards in Delhi! It's a happy day," Anil posted on Instagram.

Neerja, which released last year was directed by Ram Madhvani and written by Saiwyn Quadras and Sanyuktha Chawla Shaikh. It was produced by Atul Kasbekar's Bling Unplugged alongside Fox Star Studios. The film featured Sonam Kapoor as the title character, with Shabana Azmi, Yogendra Tiku and Shekhar Ravjiani in supporting roles.

The plot centered on the Libyan-backed Abu Nidal Organization's hijacking of Pan Am Flight 73 in Karachi, Pakistan, on 5 September 1986. The film is shown from the point of view of the flight's head purser, Neerja Bhanot, who thwarted the hijack attempt by alerting the pilots, thus grounding the plane. She was killed by the hijackers while helping to save 359 of the 379 passengers and crew on board. The government posthumously awarded her the Ashoka Chakra; she was the youngest person to receive it.

Neerja won two awards at the 64th National Film Awards including Best Feature Film in Hindi and Special Mention for Sonam. At the 62nd Filmfare Awards, Neerja won six awards, including Best Film (Critics), Best Actress (Critics) (Kapoor), and Best Supporting Actress (Azmi).
